The Lady Devils took home the first-place title in the annual Holiday Hoopfest Dec. 7-9.

“Taking the win at our tournament felt great,” junior  post Adeline Catron said,  “especially when it’s been a while since we’ve won holiday hoops.”

The tournament took place during the school day, so the student body was encouraged to support the girls.

“Having the students from Central Heights cheer the team on really helped the atmosphere and encouraged the team.” Catron said.

The team went up against some competitive opponents and worked together to get a win.

“There was definitely tough competition from all the teams,” head girls basketball coach Templeton said. “We shot the ball really well so we were able to put up a lot of points.”

The girls have put in a lot of hard work since last year’s tournament, and all that work paid off.

“We played  Lovelady last year and we lost by 3, so this year we had to come out and play like we all knew we could,” junior guard Allison Welch said. “We worked hard and we all knew what we wanted in the end and that was the championship.
