Lady devil basketball exceeds expectations

The past season was a rollercoaster filled with ups and downs, but against all odds, the Lady Devils prevailed and exceeded expectations.

The Lady Devil’s  23-24  basketball season has officially concluded; however, the hard work and dedication has never gone unnoticed with this team.

“I think our biggest accomplishment this season would have to do with the fact of how many new faces we have on the team and how much they had to learn in a short amount of time.” head coach Danielle Templeton said.

Templeton had many expectations and goals for this season, and the Lady Devils excelled past what was expected from them.

“Our goal for this season was to make the playoffs,” Templeton said. “We did meet that goal and that goal will definitely rise next year.”

The Lady Devils faced many challenges this season and found a way to overcome those challenges and persevere.

“I think the girls did a good job on perseverance,” assistant coach Wayne Grissom said. “What I mean by that is being tired and finding a way to suck it up and do what was required.”

The Lady Devils have come a long way since senior Alison Servantes’s freshman year.

“One thing that made a big change was how the team started to notice that there is more to basketball than just winning games and scoring, but working as a team and being a family,” Servantes said. “ Coach Templeton encouraged us to motivate our teammates and to support each other.”

Throughout her high school career, playing basketball for the Lady Devils has made a huge impact on her life.

“Basketball has shown me many life lessons that I will use in my daily life as I grow older and I am very gracious for that,” Servantes said.

The Lady Devil’s season concluded with a loss against Kountze during the playoffs. The team will continue to work hard and prepare for next year’s season. Servantes left some encouraging words for her fellow teammates to bring with them into the upcoming season.

“Be motivated, have good communication with your team and coaches, and put in the work,” Servantes said.
