FCCLA hosted their first blood drive of the year. In charge of this event were FCCLA officers, Isabella Downing and Olivia Padilla, and sponsor Cynthia Nichols. Nichols plans on conducting three blood drives during the 2024-2025 school year. These will take place in September, January, and May.
To be allowed to donate, students had to be 16 years old and at least 120 pounds. For this blood drive, there were 26 participants. If students donate twice during their senior year, they receive a red cord for graduation.
All of the blood received from this blood drive was donated to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in Houston.
Hosting this blood drive was important to Nichols.
“It’s saving lives,” Nichols said, “because you never know when you’re going to be in the next event where you need blood. I was almost that person once.”
