Forty-five students were inducted into the Central Heights Chapter of the National Beta Club on Tuesday, September 17. Beta Induction is a ceremony to induct the new members and celebrate their accomplishments.
The standards for the new members are high.
“[Students must] maintain an above 97 GPA, participate in three Beta sponsor service projects, receive a minimum of 20 service hours, maintain good character and morals, and be a good leader in the school,” Beta Club sponsor Patti Boulware said.
Beta Club members must have a desire to make a difference in their community, so these students can be seen working hard in the community.
“You will see members giving back to the community, volunteering for different events in the school and town and see them succeeding at state convention,” Boulware said.
Beta Convention is something new that the club will be attending this year.
“Beta Convention is a competition with events much like UIL, but with added visual arts, performing arts and STEM,” Boulware said.
Newly inducted member Kalen Carrell is excited for this upcoming year with Beta.
“It is definitely going to be cool to go in and experience all the different Avenues and different choices that we have to be able to compete,” Carrell said.
Beta Club’s goal this year is to embrace the foundation of the club.
“We want to emphasize the four pillars of beta which are achievement, character, leadership, and service to help develop the club,” Boulware said.
