A new high school sports-based technology team has been formed called Esports. The team consists of senior Aiden Bridges, junior Ryan Moore, senior Logan Brown, senior Jon McClain, junior Calla Rudolph, and sophomore Elijah Duckworth.
The first competition took place at Region 7 in Kilgore, Texas, playing Smashbrothers. They had two three-person teams with a 1 versus 1 match up format.
Although they did not win, they were excited to make it to the third bracket play. The first teams are a group of high school GT students who are piloting the program to hopefully open schoolwide next year. The team has visited with Players vs. a nonprofit company, who host regional and state esports tournaments for schools.
The team plans to meet with Mr. Cox in January to discuss the future of the squad. Their next meet is in April unless they join the Spring virtual tournament. Matches are held biweekly afterschool from 4-5 p.m.
