Playoffs are around the corner for the Blue Devil basketball team. Their first-round game is Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Splendora against Buna. The basketball team is hopeful for this win. They have put in a lot of effort and hard work.
This game is very important. Coach Herron, boys basketball head coach and athletic director, said the schools will be split into two categories, “big schools” and “small schools.” Central Heights should be placed in the small school bracket; however, the schools that are matched up can be unknown.
“Once we get past the first team I think we have a chance to win it,” Herron said.
Their strategy to progress deeper into this year’s playoff rounds began a while ago, and are still ongoing.
“The plans started back in February (2024) when we were done and getting stronger, which we have. We were very young last year, and I think we have matured,” Herron said.
Although becoming state champions brings great joy, Coach Herron takes pride in the moments of companionship shared between the team members.
“Laughing, singing and fighting together, those are the things that matter most to me.” Herron said. “At the end of the day, it’s seeing these goofy boys turn into men that makes me happy.”
