As we approach the end of the school year, many seniors have developed cases of senioritis. According to Google, the definition of senioritis is a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance.
“I have no desire to come to school,” senior Leighann Miller said. “I just want to be exempt, so I can have more days off.”
Being reluctant to come to school is a common theme seen in students with senioritis.
“It’s pointless being here,” senior Mason Levings said.
Seniors have a busy schedule that consists of late nights and early mornings. Their schedules are a reason they do not want to attend school.
“I just want to sleep,” senior Brycen Nix, also known as Cowpoke Nix, said. “I work til midnight.”
Some are simply up for fun.
“I stay up playing games,” senior Jeffery Zheng said. “Resulting in a lack of sleep.”
Another symptom of this crippling disease is a lack of motivation to pay attention in class.
“I don’t care about learning,” Zheng said. “My grades have a kind of ‘meh’ attitude.”
Levings has also lost interest in his classes this year.
“I’m failing four classes,” Levings said.
The decline in students’ academic performances all stems from having no desire to do school anymore.
“I usually study for six hours, now I just study for one or two hours.” Zheng said.
Senior Kaitlyn Pineda, has suffered from senioritis since her first day of freshman year. Her parents’ wise advice is what helped her push through.
“My parents pushed and encouraged me to finish,” Pineda said. “[They] told me that it would go by fast, and it did.”
Pineda has high hopes that she will not experience a lack of motivation in college.
“I absolutely hate high school,” Pineda said. “I’m ready for this new chapter.”
On the other hand, there are very few seniors who do not believe in senioritis.
“I don’t think it exists,” senior Jasper Westmoreland said. “ I think it is laziness.”
