The Central Heights High School and Middle School Band had a contest that took place on April 2, 2025 at Troup High School. They took home many awards.
Led by band director Mrs. Yates, the students performed many pieces, some that were completely new to them and had to learn the music sheet in a very short amount of time. Brianna McLaughlin, a high school senior, who participated in this event has expressed that she was stressed but it was all worth it.
“Just thinking about where you might mess up is kind of scary but just hope they only hear the good parts,” McLaughlin said.
The first part of the competition was both the schools performing three songs together and those pieces were the following: ‘Red Giant,’ ‘Mighty Might,’ and ‘Danza.’
“On stage there is stress in the air,” she said. “But also an eerie calm thinking about how much you practiced and hope it’s enough.”
Judges were to give feedback on how well the students are continuing to perform, and how they have bettered themselves since last year. The band took their time practicing and all their hard work did pay off.
