As the school year comes to a close, we bid farewell to Kevin Herron who has been a fundamental part of our community for 22 years. Herron has contributed greatly to our school through coaching, P.E., head boys basketball, head track, assistant track, head tennis, head golf, assistant baseball, and serving as the athletic director for 14 years. In addition, he also served as a speech teacher.
“My greatest accomplishments are getting texts from guys that are now men thanking me,” Herron said. “Winning and losing games is fun and it happens and everybody wins and loses but it’s not worth it if you’re not building relationships with the people you’re doing it with.”
Herron hopes to leave his legacy by hoping his players know how much he cared for them.
“I try to do what is right for the whole school and kids,” Herron said. “I want the next head coach to make it about relationships and not to be afraid to push and coach them hard.”
Herron said that God was nudging them in the direction of moving and he is putting his trust in Him.
“It’s scary because we don’t have a house yet or a job for my wife, but we are trusting God to open those doors.” Herron said. “These are just fears and we have to attack them.”
The Herrons are going to live in Weatherford, Texas, which is right outside of Fort Worth. Herron will be working at Poolville High School and is going to be in the same role, serving as the head boys basketball coach and athletic director.
