Starting the 2025-2026 school year, all students of Central Heights High School are not allowed to have phones walking into school or at all during the school day. Students are only allowed to get phones when the bell rings at 3:20 in the afternoon. This new rule is due to the new law being enforced in all Texas schools.
Some students feel they aren’t affected much by this change, and that it’s a really easy rule to follow.
“I don’t use my cell phone in the first place [since] there is no service,” sophomore Graysin Corley said. “It’s super easy; I kind of like it.”
Other students don’t agree with this new change and think it unnecessary and inconvenient.
“The new policy is a little difficult since I’m not able to communicate with my family as easily,” sophomore Avery Scott said. “I feel that we should at least be able to have our phones at lunch and not during class time.”
Even though student feelings about the cell phone ban are mostly in agreement across the school, principal Stephen Cox said students seem to be handling it well.
“Overall, I’ve been very proud of how our students are adjusting to the new cell phone law. Our students have shown maturity and resilience,” Cox said. “While it’s still an adjustment, I’m confident our Blue Devils will continue to handle it well.”
