Dallas Cameron, the new head basketball coach for Central Heights, is ready to lead his team to victory.
Cameron already has goals for the upcoming season. He said his plans consist of hanging a state championship banner and holding a state championship trophy at the end of the year.
“I personally don’t think that you should sell yourself short,” Cameron said. “I believe that our guys work really hard. I believe they deserve to have success based on the work that they put out.”
Cameron played basketball for his high school team in South Florida, which is where he grew up. His coach during this time had a great impact on him, and Cameron saw him as a father figure. Cameron said he wanted to make sure he gave back because of what his coach did for him.
“So when I was a player in college, I would always go back to help the generation that came after me, to help them with their game and help them improve,” Cameron said. “And in that, I started to kind of find a liking for coaching.”
Cameron’s expectations for his players are to play the game the right way, respect one another, respect the game, uphold the standard of the program and uphold their morals.
“We’re a process-oriented program,” Cameron said. “We believe that if we really focus on the process, the results will take care of themselves. And so that’s what I expect to see: a team that goes out there, they’re focused, they’re hungry, they’re passionate and they leave it all out there on the floor for one another.”
Cameron said the keys to success are work and confidence, and says to his players the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.
“I think when you’re confident, then more likely than not you can have success because you know what lies ahead,” Cameron said. “And even if you don’t necessarily know what lies ahead, you know the work that was put in beforehand. You can’t do anything without hard work and you definitely can’t do anything without confidence.”
