Central Heights High School received an “A” rating from the Texas Education Agency for the 2024-2025 school year.
The TEA gave CHHS an accountability rating of 96. This reflects the school’s effort towards keeping a great campus.
“It means a lot of hard work from our students and our staff,” principal Stephen Cox said. “There are a lot of different metrics that get measured by TEA, but it comes down to what’s happening in the classroom every single day.”
According to Cox, individual student success contributes to the school’s accountability rating.
“Some of it’s through the EOC testing results, but also high schools have CCMR indicators that dictates their accountability as well,” Cox said. “So that goes to our CTE department, and students finishing a CTE pathway and getting an industry-based certification.”
Only 93 high school campuses ranked higher than CHHS out of the 1,538 high schools in Texas.
“We are definitely in the top ten, possibly the top five percent in the state of Texas,” Cox said.
Teachers are honored that CHHS received such a great accountability rating.
“I’m proud that the state sees what I see at Central Heights, which is that we are a top-notch school,” teacher Tracie Sullivan said. “It did not surprise me that we earned an ‘A.”
Likewise, students are glad to attend a high school ranked in the top 100 in all of Texas.
“Having our school be in the top 100 is unbelievable, yet good to hear,” sophomore Maximus Everett said. “I’m overjoyed to be in a school with such educated fellows as I.”
