FFA has officially begun a new school year. Last week, they hosted an ice cream meeting for all students in order to encourage students to join the club. They also had a beginning of the year meeting with pizza and Slip ‘N Slide kickball on Tuesday, Sept. 9. These meetings help the club spread information and aspirations for the year.
“The ice cream social had around 60 people show up,” FFA teacher Amanda Thompson said, “We did a quick scavenger hunt where a team of two won gift cards. We then played cornhole and then had ice cream.”
FFA leaders hope to grow engagement in the club. They want to create a strong brand identity for their program to increase more consistent community involvement.
“My goal for FFA this year is to get more participation in competitions and events that are bigger than just our chapter,” FFA officer Allison Johnson said.
The FFA club can help with communication skills, career readiness, assertiveness, leadership and other qualities helpful for students to conquer high school and be ready for the next chapter of their lives.
“One piece of information I would share,” FFA officer Allison Johnson said, “is FFA is so much more than wanting to be a farmer; our leadership development events prepare for any professional class and career development events can help with a career straight out of high school or just help with a random adult task somewhere down the road.”
Thompson encourages students to be involved in anything that interests them and to not be afraid to fail.
“Being a well-rounded student that is involved in more than one thing will be more beneficial to you in the long run than just participating in one club in high school,” Thompson said, “Life is short. Get involved.”
