For any parents and students with questions regarding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, Central Heights High School is hosting FAFSA Night on Monday, October 27.
The FAFSA is used to manage financial aid such as grants, loans and work-study funds. These allow for families to get assistance with paying for higher education.
“The free application can be found at studentaid.gov,” counselor Autumn McDaniel said. “Parents and students should not pay to complete the FAFSA.”
The FAFSA is important in determining the amount of funding students can get based on the family’s income. Different assistance is available for different income levels.
“FAFSA provides the means to allow students to be able to continue their education after high school,” McDaniel said. “By completing the FAFSA, other means for funding from the state or college may be available.”
It is recommended that students fill out the FAFSA to have the opportunity to be considered for financial aid from several different programs. The financial aid helps fund their education after high school.
“It gives students the means to continue their education when they may not otherwise be able to do so,” McDaniel said.
Parents are also recommended to complete their part in the FAFSA to help alleviate costs for their student’s education.
“Students cannot receive federal assistance if the parent portion is not completed,” McDaniel said. “By completing their portion, parents are providing their students with the opportunity to receive funding for higher education.”
