Attendance rules today are very strict. Every absence except school-related and short doctor or dentist appointments count against attendance, even when the situation is something uncontrollable. These rules are meant to keep students in class, but sometimes they create stress and unfair outcomes. I believe that the attendance rules are too strict and need to be changed so they are more fair.
One major problem is that if a student is sick for a whole day, the absence still counts against them even when they bring a doctor’s note. This is not fair because students can’t help when they get sick, and they should not be punished for something they can’t control.
Strict attendance rules also cause students to come to school when they don’t feel well. This can make their sickness worse and can spread germs to other students. These rules sometimes push students to choose between their health and their attendance record.
Some families have problems with transportation or emergencies at home. When these things happen, students may miss school even though they are doing their best. These real-life situations should be understood, not judged so strictly.
Some people say strict rules stop skipping and teach responsibility. This isn’t completely true though because rules can still be firm without being unfair. Students with real reasons for being absent shouldn’t be treated the same as those who skip on purpose.
Therefore, attendance rules should be updated so they will be more fair. Absences with doctor’s notes shouldn’t count against students, and there should be more understanding for real emergencies. Changing the rules would help both learning and students’ well-being.
