In almost every single club here at Central Heights, there is some kind of group trip or events to go to. This is really great, as it allows students to become more involved in their school culture. However this also comes with a downside, as many students are forced to have to pay for everything themselves.
Almost all funds are subjected to the students to come up with. Many times the amounts are just small, but when trips come around it could be up hundreds of dollars. Many students simply do not have the time after school to spend on fundraising. Many have to focus on other things such as homework, a school sport, or other personal events that they might have. The lack of time for many students causes them to have to sit out on school events.
On top of the lack of time, think about when a student is involved in multiple clubs too. If they want to go on multiple trips, then they might have to save hundreds and maybe even thousands. This is just simply too much to ask of a student. If a student wanted to go on five trips, and each one was $400, they would have to save up $2000. That’s almost two months worth of wages for a potential student working a part-time job at full availability. That would require them to spend most of their hard-earned money on school events, which I guarantee you, they probably are not excited to do.
However, you could state that maybe they could just pick a few events and sit out the rest. This would allow them to pick certain ones to go with on their friends, and choose ones not to be involved in. This just simply wouldn’t work for some students. Many students love to be completely involved in their extracurricular activities, so they would want to go on every trip. Just because the prices are too high doesn’t mean that students should have to pick and choose on what they want to be involved in.
So in summary, students shouldn’t have to bear the load of paying for everything. Rather, the school should recognize that they have other circumstances and events to do, and should help out by covering some of these costs. Students can do everything they want, but they shouldn’t have to pay the price for it.
