High school students Maximus Everett and Ryan Moore began their own online newspaper, The Re(a)d Daily, with their first set of articles on November 10, 2025.
The idea originated with two Journalism I students wanting to help one of their own. As a result, they formed The Re(a)d Daily to combat this issue.
“We heard a student say that their idea may not be posted to the Daily Blue,” Everett said.” “Upon hearing this, me and Ryan Moore wanted to make our own newspaper.”
Despite its unusual origins, Moore was dedicated to making this happen.
“It was really a spur of the moment kind of thing,” Moore said. “We were joking about it and he went and made the website for it so I committed to it.”
Journalism teacher Tracie Sullivan is pleased by the Re(a)d Daily and its writers.
“I’m actually proud of them for taking the initiative to write an underground newspaper after we learned about it in Journalism I,” Sullivan said. “However, I need their writing skills for the Daily Blue.”
When asked about wanting to continue working on the Re(a)d Daily, Moore was conflicted by the question.
“I’d like to, but I’m going to be busy with college,” Moore said. “It would make more sense to find an underclassman that is interested in doing it and passing it on to them.”
