The varsity cheer team is getting ready for the upcoming school year and planning to increase opportunities for cheerleaders.
Sign ups have been released for all students interested in getting involved in high school cheerleading to have the chance to try out for the team.
“It will be a very stressful but very fun time between our UIL state girls’ basketball game,” Varsity Cheer Team Captain Alaina Cordova said. “We have practice Monday, cheer at state semi finals Tuesday, have mock tryouts Wednesday and the real deal tryouts on Thursday.”
Next school year, cheerleaders will have the opportunity to compete in UIL, allowing the team to reach new levels, despite the great effort they will need to put in.
“We are very excited to finally be able to compete in UIL,” Cordova said. “The cheerleaders will have to work very hard to prepare for the UIL cheer competition.”
After a year of low numbers on the team due to injuries and other complications, the team is expected to expand significantly based on the large number of students who have signed up.
“I am extremely excited for the amount of people trying out this year because we will be able to try new things and have a bigger group of girls to work with,” Cordova said. “Having more girls will provide us with many more opportunities and will help us to not just look better, but be better and show new things in our routines and on the sidelines.”
