Earth Day is an international day devoted to drawing attention to the planet we know and love. Every year on April 22, it reminds us to take care of our planet and look for ways we can preserve it for future generations.
Leading up to the first Earth Day in 1970, Americans across the country were protesting against major problems harming the environment such as oil spills, toxic dumps, and sewage. It was on April 22, 1970 when 20 million Americans across the country took to the streets to fight for better efforts to preserve the planet. This marked the beginning of the international movement known as Earth Day.
This year’s theme for Earth Day is “Our Power, Our Planet.” It focuses on using renewable energy over the popular fossil fuels that harm the environment. By using sustainable energy sources, we are able to keep the quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we live on.
Every year, our Earth faces dangerous threats created by humans. As a result, it is our job to take part in maintaining our beloved planet.
