All the time and work one puts into something they are passionate about pays off in the end!

Junior Paige Layton started her love for running a little over a year ago and has continuously succeeded in all her hopes and dreams. Paige said her running experience and how she is looking forward to regionals in Waco, Texas.

“My hopes for regionals is to achieve a new personal record and to just have an enjoyable race,” Paige said.

She does a lot to prepare, and Paige said what her main training consists of.

“Everyday I go to a track and do long runs one day,” Paige said, “and then the next day I do sprints.”

Paige said the times she ran at the area meet got her first place and a guaranteed spot for regionals this year.

“In the area meet I ran a 12:33 for the two-mile and a 5:49 for the mile,” Paige said.

Paige also made it to regionals last year. She has improved since, so she said that was the difference between last year and this year’s area meet.

“I improved my two-mile by one minute,” Paige said. “I felt an overwhelming sense of joy and accomplishment.”

She said how she developed her love for running and who inspires her.

“A little over a year ago I developed my love for running because my sister, Taylor, got into running and that is when I decided I wanted to try it for myself,” Paige said. “I realized that I loved the feeling of running everyday.”
